Les Exclusifs de Chanel Now in Parfum Form

les exclusifs de chanel parfum
Les Exclusifs de Chanel, the heritage fragrances named after pivotal icons and places in Mlle. Chanel’s life are now available in parfum form. The fragrances, which originally were only offered in hefty 6.8 ounce flacons were made in light concentrations and meant to be sprayed liberally. Last year smaller, travel-friendly 2.5 ounce petits flacons were introduced and Chanel recently announced the introduction of Jersey, a new addition to Les Exclusifs range.  Now, Chanel is releasing Les Exclusifs in parfum form:  The most luxurious, concentrated form of fragrance – the fullest expression of the perfumer’s art. The parfums will be released in groups and the first four scents available in parfum are GARDÉNIA, N°22, CUIR DE RUSSIE and BOIS DES ILES and are available online for $160.

Check out the video clip below from an Arthaus documentary where Mlle. Chanel herself speaks on the importance of fragrance…

Karl Lagerfeld Designing Two Wedding Dresses for Lily Allen

lily allen chanel necklaceIt’s a dilemma that every bride faces – will the dress be classic or modern? Lily Allen isn’t immune to the conundrum so she’s having Karl Lagerfeld design two wedding dresses. One dress is an ivory full-length lace gown and the other is a shorter, modern dress. The two dresses are costing the soon-to-be Mrs. Cooper £38,000.

A source close to Allen stated:

In the end, Karl suggested she get one of each and decide on the morning which she’ll wear down the aisle. At the moment it looks as though she will plump for the more classic, vintage gown with a small train for the ceremony, and then change straight after the service into a shorter, tighter number….The latter will be more in keeping for the evening party and will allow her to dance more freely.

It’s a growing trend for brides to get two dresses – one for the ceremony and one for the reception. I can’t wait to see Lily Allen’s dresses. I have to admit, I’m more excited about seeing her dress than I was to see Kate Middleton’s dress!

The Story Behind Chanel No. 5 On The BBC

Last week, the BBC posted a radio segment and article on the story behind Chanel No.5.  If you haven’t heard it I would definitely give it a listen below.  The iconography and branding of Chanel No.5 is one of my favorites – of any product – so I put together some of my favorite Chanel No.5 images.  Some are vintage ads, some are product shots, some are works of art inspired by the fragrance.  Enjoy!

Assouline Chanel Three Book Set, Special Edition with Chanel Slipcase

assouline chanel three book set with chanel slipcase

I love collecting books on Chanel – Mademoiselle was such a fascinating artist and I love all of her creations.  When I found out about the special edition of Chanel books by Assouline, I had to have it.  One problem though – the three book set retails for $550!  Why so much?  Easy – it’s all in the quilting.

Chanel produced a “luxe slipcase … made of genuine black quilted leather and adorned with a metal Chanel logo” exclusively for Assouline.  The slipcase houses three editions celebrating Chanel’s revolutionary style: Chanel Fashion, Chanel Fine Jewelry, and Chanel Perfume.  One of the most visible personalities of her era, Gabrielle Chanel invented a style that was synonymous with modernity and chic and this three book set does her legacy justice.  Written by Francois Baudot and Francoise Aveline, each book is 80 pages with 60 images and the quilted slipcase measures 6.5 x 9.5″.

You can purchase the Chanel three book set and slipcase on the Assouline website.  If it’s beyond your budget, you can get the three books – sans Chanel quilted slipcase – on Amazon for $47.

Chanel Ads Styled by Carine Roitfeld – Sneak Peek

carine roitfeld for chanel

Back in April I mentioned that former French Vogue EIC Carine Roitfeld would be styling the Chanel Fall-Winter 2010/11 ad campaign featuring Freja Beha Erichson.  Images from the campaign have begun to surface online and they definitely look a bit different from the ones that Karl art directs.   Instead of shooting outside, on white seamless or in 31 Rue Cambon, the ads show Freja in a photobooth, presumable taking photos of herself.  It’s kind of like a dream, within a dream I suppose.  Perhaps inspired by Inception?   I can’t wait to see these in the glossies in the next few weeks.  What do you think of them?

P.S. – I love the Chanel mask!  Freja looks like a Chanel superhero!
