Lagerfeld Links!

Yesterday I caught up on Chanel-inspired news and today I’m focusing on Karl Lagerfeld-inspired news…

Let’s start off with a very Happy Belated Birthday to Karl Lagerfeld! Uncle Karl celebrated his 79th birthday on September 10th.

Carine Roitfeld thinks Karl Lagerfeld is a rockstar: “It’s funny, he’s like a rock star now. You go on the street with him and it’s like being with J-Lo.” Female First

This is what Karl Lagerfeld looked like as a child – it seems like he’s always liked collars and ties. dailyELLE

If you haven’t shopped the new collection yet, the KARL fall-winter 2012/13 collection is for sale on Net-a-Porter. I’m especially loving the KARL camo! Also, you may notice his new collection includes pearl and lace collars – I beat him to it and showed you how to DIY pearl and lace collars back in April!

Karl Lagerfeld designed the layout for the 26th Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris. He stated: “I like antique dealers and everything the Biennale represents, and I love the Grand Palais, which is my favorite place in Paris. I have so many memories there of Chanel runway shows with their outsized decor.” Karl

Karl Lagerfeld’s Mon Shu character made many appearances at the Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura (SUKL) launch in the form of a balloon, plush dolls, animated character (flying on a lipstick) and nail decals. In discussing Japanese schoolgirls – his inspiration for Mon Shu – Karl Lagerfeld stated: “They dress a little like me, even if this is more exaggerated.” WWD

I may need to start a new column called the Choupette Link List!

Here we see the “Coco Cat” illustrated by Karl Lagerfeld and the mini Chanel model Hudson Kroenig wearing a tee with Choupette on it. LDNfashion

First Look: Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

chanel prefall 2012 ad campaign

Back in December Karl Lagerfeld took us on the Bombay-Paris express to see the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2012 Paris-Bombay collection. Earlier this week images surfaced online of the upcoming ad campaign featuring Daria Strokous, styled by Carine Roitfeld and photographed by Karl Lagerfeld.

The styling, hair and makeup seems similar to what we saw on the runway. The photos are set in front of a bar that looks luxurious but is not glitzy. The photos are shot in black and white and I like the way the grayscale makes the photos look a bit aged and the poses are reminiscent of dancing Shiva statues. Stay tuned as you’ll be seeing these ads in magazines in a few months.

Chanel Athletics Spring-Summer 2012 Campaign Shot by Karl Lagerfeld

Chanel Athletics Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

It’s still cold outside but our glossies will soon be featuring the best of what’s to come this spring and summer. Chanel just released their Chanel Athletics Spring-Summer 2012 Campaign Shot images.  The campaign features Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls as the best dressed gymnasts ever, was styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Karl Lagerfeld.

This is the second Chanel campaign styled by Carine Roitfeld but these shots are not as whimsical as the campaign featuring Freja Beha. The Chanel Spring-Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection was inspired by the sea, so not surprisingly the sea is prominent in most of the photos. The campaign was shot at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France – the location of the Chanel 2011/2012 Cruise Collection.  The photos are beautiful and represent the simplicity and elegance that is the Chanel brand.

One Iconic Bouclé Tweed Jacket, Many Women

V Magazine Chanel Jacket Karl Lagerfeld

Charlotte Casiraghi photographed by Karl Lagerfeld

Carine Roitfeld and Karl Lagerfeld are unstoppable.  Just yesterday I posted about their collaboration for the Chanel Spring-Summer 2012 ad campaign and now they are working together on a book celebrating the iconic Chanel bouclé tweed jacket.  The book is a celebration of one jacket worn by many beautiful women styled by Carine Roitfeld and photgraphed by Karl Lagerfeld.  The book is still in production but V Magazine previewed five images featuring the Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, Charlotte Casiraghi, Saskia De Brauw and Daphne Groeneveld.

Carine Roitfeld Styled the Chanel Spring-Summer 2012 Campaign

karl lagerfeld and carine roitfeld

Carine Roitfeld is making an encore appearance as Chanel ad campaign stylist.  She’s teamed up again with Karl Lagerfeld to style the Chanel spring-summer 2012 ad campaign.  Lagerfeld said the campaign is “all about athletics and the sea.…It’s very modern sportif and in black-and-white.”  The campaign was shot at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc (where the Chanel Cruise 2011/12 collection was shown) in Antibes, France with  Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls featured in the ads.  I can’t wait to see these images.  The ads that Carine Roitfeld styled for Fall were so creative I’m looking forward to see what this dynamic duo came up with next!

Carine Roitfeld’s Irreverant Sneak Peek

A few pages of Carine Roitfeld’s book, Irreverant, have surfaced online.  The book is essentially a catalog of her thirty-year career and includes an illustration by Karl Lagerfeld himself.  Word on the street is that the two are also working on a book together – seems like they are partner’s in crime.  Since she left French Vogue Carine Roitfeld styled a Chanel ad campaign, curated Karl’s amfAR art show, Karl interviewed and photographed her, and now they are working on a book together.  I wonder what’s next!

Freja Beha Cries Chanel Tears

freja beha crying chanel logo tearsChanel News posted images of the making of the “Chanel Cocomation” – the campaign that Karl Lagerfeld shot and Carine Roitfeld styled.  By now we’ve seen the images in magazines and online but I don’t recall seeing any images with Freja Beha crying Chanel logo tears.  I wonder if there is also a little film go go along with the campaign? Here are the rest of the behind-the-scenes images…

One More Image of Freja Beha for Chanel Fall-Winter 2011/2012

freja beha carine roitfeld chanel adI found yet another image of Freja Beha Erichsen styled by Carine Roitfeld and photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chanel Fall-Winter 2011/2012 ad campaign.  This photo doesn’t include feline influences like some of the other photos did.  Instead, the most compelling aspect of this photo is Freja’s neon pink eyebrows, flowing silver locks and camellias all over her hair.

Purrrrrrrr…Freja Beha Meows for the Camera

chanel fall winter 2011 2012 ad campaignEarlier this month some images of the Fall-Winter 2011/12 ad campaign were leaked onto the net and Karl Lagerfeld claimed that they were stolen.  The big to-do about the images was because of the dream team that created them – styled by Carine Roitfeld, shot by Karl Lagerfeld and starring Karl’s muse Freja Beha.  The official images have just begun to surface online thanks to some scans from Northern Star on The Fashion Spot.

chanel fall winter 2011 2012 ad campaignIn the first image we see Freja as feline with Chanel camellias as ears – so adorable!  In the second image we see Freja with disheveled hair and very plain makeup.  She’s staring squarely into the camera and has French writing on her face:  “Il n’y a pas de mode si elle ne descend pas dans la rue!” The famous line is one of Coco Chanel’s most quoted sayings, which in English is:  “Fashion does not exist unless it goes down into the streets.” I love the simplicity of this photo and how it highlights a Chanel truism in a unique way.  Carine Roitfeld and Karl Lagerfeld make a great team and I hope that this is not the last we see of this dynamic duo.

Chanel Ads Styled by Carine Roitfeld – Sneak Peek

carine roitfeld for chanel

Back in April I mentioned that former French Vogue EIC Carine Roitfeld would be styling the Chanel Fall-Winter 2010/11 ad campaign featuring Freja Beha Erichson.  Images from the campaign have begun to surface online and they definitely look a bit different from the ones that Karl art directs.   Instead of shooting outside, on white seamless or in 31 Rue Cambon, the ads show Freja in a photobooth, presumable taking photos of herself.  It’s kind of like a dream, within a dream I suppose.  Perhaps inspired by Inception?   I can’t wait to see these in the glossies in the next few weeks.  What do you think of them?

P.S. – I love the Chanel mask!  Freja looks like a Chanel superhero!
