Chanel Soho Story Collection

For me, SoHo is a place where Bohemian ideals meet the toughness of the city… I love the tension and energy this creates.

-Peter Philips

To commemorate the re-opening of the Chanel Soho Boutique, and just in time for New York Fashion Week, Peter Philips created the Soho Story Collection features feminine pinks juxtaposed with industrial metallics.  The collection includes a palette inspired by pop art with the letters SOHO stamped in the powder.  One swipe of all 4 shades gives you a healthy, natural glow.  From nails to lips, the Soho Story Collection covers all bases.  Peter Philips explained,

I had a specific girl in mind who is both hard and soft. A girl who discovers a new city, a new life.” adds Peter Philips. “This is a very special kind of New York woman.  She is innocent, but she has a steely determination that fuels the city.

The full collection consists of: Soho de Chanel ($65.00), Quadra Eye Shadow in Stupendous, ($56.00), Rouge Coco in Stunning, ($30.00), Rouge Allure Laque in Stunt, ($32.00), Glossimer in Star, ($27.00), Le Vernis in Steel, ($23.00), Le Vernis in Strong, ($23.00).  Chanel’s Soho Story collection will be available on chanel.com on September 7th and September 10th at the SoHo Boutique (Fashion’s Night Out).

Peter Philips on the Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Haute Couture Red Lip

chanel fall/winter 2010-2011 haute couture beauty
The Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 Haute Couture show featured very simple makeup with a striking red lip. This is the look Coco Chanel herself preferred so it should come as no surprise that it showed on on the runway. Also, Chanel recently released its Rouge Coco line of lipsticks in their attempt to “bring lipstick back” and what better way than to feature it on the runway? See the Global Creative Director for Chanel talk about what inspired the faces on the runway…

Chanel 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture Beauty

Chanel 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture Beauty

On Tuesday, Chanel had its 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture show at the Grand Palais in Paris with an “8-ton, 40-foot-tall golden lion, [with] its paw perched on an enormous pearl” serving as the backdrop. (WWD). The beauty at the show was very classic and simple:  soft eyes and cheeks with a strong red lip with nails to match.  I think it’s clean look for fall where makeup can tend to get heavy.  The overall look is very light but warm enough for the cold months.

Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks at the 2010-2011 Fall/Winter Haute Couture runway show in Paris:

Complexion:
PRO LUMIÈRE Professional Finish Makeup
POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE Natural Finish Loose Powder
ÉCLAT LUMIÈRE Highlighter Face Pen
CORRECTEUR PERFECTION Long Lasting Concealer

Eyes:
LES 4 OMBRES Quadra Eye Shadow in Enigma
LE SOURCIL DE CHANEL Perfect Brows

Lips:
LE CRAYON LÈVRES Precision Lip Definer in Carmin
ROUGE COCO Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Rivoli

Nails:
LE VERNIS Nail Colour in Rouge Fatal (launching in October 2010)

Chanel Fall 2010 Beauty Collection – A Closer Look

Last week I posted images from the Chanel Fall 2010 makeup collection.  Today, I received images giving a closer look at some of the new items in the collection.  I’m very excited about paradoxal – it seems to be a bit of a paradox -it’s a mellow color yet very vibrant at the same time.  I can’t wait for it to come out so I can add it to my collection of Le Vernis Nail Colours.

Buying Into the Chanel Fantasy: Chanel’s Facebook Campaign

It used to be that to find info on Chanel, you could only visit Chanel.com – and the info and images you would find there would be very limited.  With the growing popularity of social media, Chanel has gone from being elusive to being more accessible online.

For its recent Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour launch, Chanel released an interactive media campaign on Facebook.  Chanel fans can learn about the history of Chanel lipstick, see campaign images and behind the scenes videos and allow fans to send virtual Chanel buttons to each other.

For a brand who used to cater to its older (ie, monied) clientele, Chanel is making attempts at reaching a younger audience with campaigns such as the Facebook Rouge Coco virtual buttons.  Why would Chanel change things up so much?

I think Chanel is realizing that Chanel fans start young and need to feel like they can buy into the Chanel fantasy.  Giving prospective customers the tools to interact with the brand online is one way of building brand loyalty amongst a younger customer base.

Facebook is just one of many new tools that Chanel is using to reach customers using technology.  Next, I’ll discuss the growing number of apps, podcasts and media campaigns they are using to get potential shoppers to buy into the Chanel fantasy.

Chanel Fall 2010 Beauty Collection

Chanel Fall 2010 Beauty Collection

A few months ago we showed you images from the Chanel Autumn/Winter 2010 Ready to Wear Collection and we’ve recently received info on the Fall 2010 Cosmetics collection.  You may recall the snowy theme of the Fall 2010 collection and Peter Philips worked closely with Karl Lagerfeld to come up with a beauty collection worthy of an ice princess.

The Fall 2010 collection features makeup that will give you a bold eye, while keeping cheeks and lips soft.  The nails steal the show again this season with a new must-have color called Paradoxal, a greyish-violet that will leave beauty mavens clamoring at makeup counters.

The collection will be available in stores in July 2010.

Chanel 2010-11 Cruise Show Beauty

Chanel 2010-11 Cruise Show Beauty

Effortless, natural beauty, relaxed girls who are enjoying their holidays. That was the main idea behind the look for this show.

- Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup

Each collection brings a new makeup collection by Peter Philips.  Since he’s been on board, each season he creates a frenzy with limited edition nail lacquer colors and the Cruise 2010-2011 collection will no doubt do the same.  The laid back collection was paired with equally easy going hair and makeup.  The cosmetics were used to create natural sun-kissed looks and the nails featured Jade Rose and a new sky blue (yet to be released name) shade.  I’m guessing the blue was inspired by the azure sky and/or sea of St. Tropez.  Once we find out the name, the only question will be how much the new shade will sell for on ebay!

For the show in Saint-Tropez, Peter used the following CHANEL products to create the runway beauty looks that accompanied the Amber brown, absinthe and mint green, sky and navy blue, and bright pink prints of the collection.

Skincare: Skin prepared with Hydramax + Active Nourishing Cream

Complexion: Vitalumière Aqua Foundation (available March 2011)
Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder
Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen
Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer
Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base

The Eyes: Ombres Contraste Duo Eyeshadow Duo in Taupe-Délicat (available in September 2010)
Le Crayon Sourcils Precision Brow Definer
Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Black

Lips: Soin Tendre Lèvres Hydra-Treatment Lip Care SPF 15
New lipstick pencils (not yet available)

The Cheeks: Soleil Tan de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid

The Nails: Le Vernis Nail Colour in Jade Rose and a new pastel baby blue shade (not yet available)

Chanel Noir et Or Paris-Shanghai Makeup Collection

Chanel Noir et Or Paris-Shanghai Makeup Collection

In December, Chanel presented the Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai collection in Shanghai.  The Métiers D’Art collections are always my favorite because Karl always takes us to exotic locales and the pieces are always exquisitely crafted by the artisans and craftsmen that the house of Chanel is know for working with.

Each season, Peter Philips creates a beauty collection to accompany the fashion collection and for this year’s Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai Collection he created Noir et Or (“Black & Gold”).  Noir et Or takes cues from the apparel and accessories collection that featured jet black with gilded gold accents.

Chanel Noir et Or Paris-Shanghai Makeup Collection

I’m very excited about this collection because for the first time, Chanel is offering a black matte nail colour called Black Velvet ($25).  The other Le Vernis colors include Gold Lamé, a Satiny gold nail color ($25) and Illusion d‘or, a transparent sparkling gold nail color ($25).  Though Chanel is no stranger to gold nail polish, Gold Lamé and Illusion d‘or are different than the Gold Fiction and Or de Russe (”Russian Gold” from the Paris-Moscou collection).  Gold Lamé looks like a more subtle version of Gold Fiction and Illusion d‘or is clear with just a hint of gold sparkle.  I definitely can’t wait to get my claws on all of these!

For eyes, Chanel is releasing Ligne et Ombre de Chanel in Jet-Gold, a matte black eyeliner and sparkling gold eyeshadow ($45).  I love the juxtaposition of matte black with lustrous gold.  Chanel herself was said to wear gold eyeshadow – one of my favorite eyeshadow colors.

Noir et Or will be on counters later this week for April 2010 and will be sold exclusively at Chanel boutiques, Chanel Makeup Studios and on Chanel.com.
