Barbara Cirkva, Chanel’s fashion division president stated that the purpose of Numéros Privés is to “surprise and delight people” – and surprise and delight it did. With ten rooms all devoted to the signatures of the brand, the exhibition played on Coco Chanel’s lucky numbers 5, 2.55 and 31. WWD reported:

One room was filled with Chanel Bearbrick dolls and matching wallpaper, another displayed fine jewelry among sculpted topiaries. There was a recreation of Coco’s apartment at 31 Rue Cambon, and a digital room that decoded the making of the 2.55 handbag. It had quilted leather walls. But no room was as popular as the one filled with old-school carnival claw games, where mesmerized guests tried to grab little Chanel gift bags with a mechanical arm.

The event also coincides with the store re-opening at the Bellagio and with Chinese New Year when many international clients travel to Las Vegas.

I only have one question…where was MY invitation? It MUST have gotten lost in the mail:)

On March 21-23 Chanel will host three events: a presentation of the winter couture show, the opening a pop-up shop, and opening an exhibition devoted to Chanel’s iconic tweed jackets to showing images from Karl Lagefeld’s book “The Little Black Jacket,” and styled by Carine Roitfeld. Chanel, The Vocabulary of Style is one of the most beautiful collections of Chanel photography that I have ever seen.  Compiled by fashion historian and journalist Jérôme Gautier, Coco Chanel’s story of iconic style is told through archival photos paired with recent images.  Photographs by leading photographers from Cecil Beaton, Horst P. Horst and Edward Steichen to Nick Knight, Annie Leibowitz and Mario Testino are shown side-by-side, just to name a few.

The Vocabulary of Style is divided into eleven chapters that identify key elements in Chanel’s lexicon:  The Body Liberated, Little Black Dresses, Black into Night, Baroque Inspirations, 31, Rue Cambon, Youth and Evolution, Simple Chic, Androgyne, From Tweed to Tweeds, The Total Look and Rebel.  In each chapter the viewer sees the progression from the seeds that Coco Chanel herself sowed to the flowers that bloomed under Karl Lagerfeld’s delicate hand.

We’ve seen the Chanel cupcakes, cookies, french fries and lollipops but Tricia Clarke-Stone, the “glam foodie” of Sip, Chat, Chow is taking things to a whole new level. She brings couture to some of our favorite sweet treats. She tends to like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Fendi in addition to Chanel, but as you know, my only concern is Chanel – check out these pics of couture cuisine!

I took a much-needed few days off to celebrate Thanksgiving (and my birthday) but that didn’t stop Chanel or Karl Lagerfeld from making the news. Let’s play a little catch-up to see what happened in the Chanel world last week…

I’m not sure why everyone on the interweb is so surprised that Karl Lagerfeld makes a lot of money considering who he works for and the breadth of his projects – but he does, ok? WWD

Karl Lagerfeld will be donning a new hat - that of editor. In February 2012, “Lagerfeld will guest edit all Metro editions around the world. As part of the project, he will create a series of collectible sketches, illustrations and columns as well as choose the stories for the newspaper and give his notoriously provocative comments on the news of the day.”  Metro

14 stars were chosen by 15 designers as their ‘muses’, and Chanel picked Yoon Seung Ah in Vogue magazine’s latest pictorial in the December issue. (Not sure which country’s edition of Vogue).  AllKPop

Illustrator Megan Hess is exhibiting her work at the newly launched The Gallery in Victoria, Australia.  Ragtrader

Chanel launched an iPhone App for the J12 and among the features, you can “try one on”.

Blake Lively and Elizabeth Olsen looked gorgeous in Chanel makeup at the Chanel-sponsored MOMA Film Benefit in honor of Pedro Almodovar.  Chanel celebrity makeup artist Angela Levin did Blake Lively’s makeup and Gita Bass did Elizabeth Olsen’s makeup.
