Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai

Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai
The much anticipated Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai collection was shown today in Shanghai and like past Métiers D’Art collections, Karl Lagerfeld took us on a journey to another time and place. It turns out the silent film he wrote and directed did indeed give us a glimpse of some of the time periods in China’s history that inspired some pieces, namely the 20s, 30s, 40s, 60s and traditional imagery from the Imperial Court.

The collection featured Chinoiserie at its best with borrowed elements including the utilitarian military looks of Communist China, cheongsam gowns, Coolie straw hats, and accents of red and yellow. The collection was very luxurious with pendant earrings and hair pieces, camelia leather leggings, sculptural coats and shaggy furs. It wouldn’t be a Chanel show without the usual suspects: camelias galore, the iconic 2.55 handbag, and the signature tweed suit.

The collection is beautiful and I can’t wait to see detail shots of the accessories and nail colors. My favorite item in the collection by far are the leather camelia leggings – they are sexy, feminine and so necessary in my closet! More images from the collection below, as well as a video of the runway show set against the backdrop of the beauty of Shanghai.

Chanel Paris-Shanghai Diary of the Collection Videos

La Chanelphile: Chanel “métiers d’art” Paris Shanghai collection Diary of a collection

A little while back we gave you a sneak peek of the Paris-Shanghai collection.  Tomorrow the Short Movie made by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai premiers and the following day the fashion show for the collection will take place in Shanghai. I can’t wait!

In the mean time, we can keep our appetites sated by watching the following videos that are part of the “Diary of the Collection.” Each episode is great because it gives a glimpse of the inner workings of Chanel from Karl sketching, to behind the scenes views of shooting the press kit and short film, to samples getting packed for the fashion show.  It’s so exciting to see how things are done at the House of Chanel.  Watch the episodes below…

Chanel Paris Shanghai: Sneak Preview

Chanel Paris-Shanghai: Sneak Preview

A few weeks ago we posted about the opening of the Chanel Shanghai boutique and Chanel “métiers d’art” Paris Shanghai collectionChanel recently launched a Paris Shanghai website devoted to the Shanghai happenings, complete with sneak previews of the collection, video teasers, and an interview with Peter Marino, the architect of the Shanghai Chanel boutique.  Not surprisingly, the collection will feature lots of red – a very popular color in Chinese culture.  I’m already loving what I see – especially the lace, jackets, print and lip color!  The “métiers d’art” collection is one of my favorite collections of the year, and if you’re looking forward to the show like me, we’ll have to wait until December 3rd for the premier of Karl Lagerfeld’s short movie about the collection and until December 4th for the runway show.  Until then, this will have to sate our appetites…
