Last month I posted about yet another brand that asked Karl Lagerfeld to lend his magic touch to their products – S.T. Dupont. Today, WWD posted sketches of the pen he designed – and from what I can make out – the distinctive feature will be the color. Lagerfeld is said to use Shu Uemera cosmetics for his Chanel sketches, but to realize the lacquer of the S.T. Dupont pen in the sketch he used nail varnish. Tomorrow night Lagerfeld is unveiling his S.T. Dupont pens and lighters at a cocktail party he is hosting at 7L, his book shop and photo studio.

Janelle Monae & Karl Lagerfeld In a Bathtub

“We liked each other from the first second on. Not just because of our style, but also the name: Janelle rhymes with Chanel, no?”

Lily Allen’s Chanel Wedding Dress
Aha! So there was an ounce of truth to the rumors that Karl Lagerfeld was designing a Chanel wedding dress for Lily Allen! Chanel News recently released an image of a Karl Lagerfeld sketch and a photo of Lily Allen at a fitting. From the image, you can see the dress is not complete but I can see enough to know that I like it a lot more than the dress she wore for her ceremony designed by Delphine Manivet.
Elle reports that Lily Allen wore the Chanel dress to her wedding reception at her country house. Perhaps she was inspired by the barn setting of the Spring 2010 collection – the show in which she actually performed? Only Mrs. Cooper knows. I’m just glad we got to see a glimpse of the dress. I hope that more images surface online showing the finished product.

Video: Orrefors by Karl Lagerfeld
Last week I mentioned that Karl Lagerfeld designed glasses for Orrefors. Here’s a video of him discussing the project. I love listening to Karl Lagerfeld speak – it’s one quotable line after the next…

Karl Lagerfeld Adds Glassware Designer To His Resume
It’s just one thing after another with Uncle Karl – chocolate, pens, books – what next? Glassware apparently. Karl Lagerfeld has teamed up with Swedish company Orrefors to produce a collection of glasses and vases. Playing on the idea of a cup and saucer, the sleek minimal stemware comes with coasters. The line launches in Europe in September and then hits US shelves in Bloomingdales mid-October. Always having a way with words, Lagerfeld stated, “It’s not like cheap perfume bottles.” And cheap they are not, the line ranges from $131 for one glass to $1600 for a vase.

Northern Lights: Northern Women in Chanel Out July 1st
Swedish couple photographer Peter Farago and stylist Ingela Klemetz-Farago have collaborated with Chanel to release Northern Women in Chanel, a book of fashion photos featuring forty-five Scandinavian beauties wearing Chanel including Carmen Kass, Helena Christensen, and Freja Beha Erichsen.
Ingela stated, “It was a fashion journey” – and what a journey it was with unlimited access to Chanel’s fashion archives! Over the course of one year, the duo shot over 300 looks featuring Chanel pieces from the present to one-of-a-kind pieces dating back to the 1920′s. “’We’re so close to nature here,’ says Farago, who was inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s earthy heroines. ‘That strength and honesty makes for a graceful, down-to-earth kind of femininity.’” (Vogue.com, May 31, 2011).
The preface is written by Karl Lagerfeld in celebration of these Northern beauties. Northern Women in Chanel releases July 1, 2011 and is limited to 2112 numbered copies worldwide. You can purchase it through Farago Publishing. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Save the Children. An accompanying exhibition starts in Stockholm on June 30th. No word yet if it’s coming stateside but I hope it is!

Karl Lagerfeld Designing Two Wedding Dresses for Lily Allen
It’s a dilemma that every bride faces – will the dress be classic or modern? Lily Allen isn’t immune to the conundrum so she’s having Karl Lagerfeld design two wedding dresses. One dress is an ivory full-length lace gown and the other is a shorter, modern dress. The two dresses are costing the soon-to-be Mrs. Cooper £38,000.
A source close to Allen stated:
In the end, Karl suggested she get one of each and decide on the morning which she’ll wear down the aisle. At the moment it looks as though she will plump for the more classic, vintage gown with a small train for the ceremony, and then change straight after the service into a shorter, tighter number….The latter will be more in keeping for the evening party and will allow her to dance more freely.
It’s a growing trend for brides to get two dresses – one for the ceremony and one for the reception. I can’t wait to see Lily Allen’s dresses. I have to admit, I’m more excited about seeing her dress than I was to see Kate Middleton’s dress!
