View Chanel’s “The Little Black Jacket” Exhibit Online!

chanel the little black jacket exhibit online
For those of us who were not fancy enough to be invited to the opening of Chanel’s “The Little Black Jacket” exhibit or don’t live in Japan (or won’t be visiting any time soon), we can still see the stunning work of Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld. All of the photos from The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld are on view on a new Chanel microsite devoted to the exhibit. The site is a bit interactive as hints of photos rotate you click on one to see the full photo.  It will take some time to see all of the photos – I kind of wish there was a way to just scroll through them all but that’s just the rushed person in me who has no time for everything.  By displaying the photos the way they did, I think Chanel intends for you  to peruse and discover as you would in a real gallery.  Enjoy!

Karlified! My Visit to the Karl Pop-Up Shop

karl by karl lagerfeld pop up shop

Last week when I was visiting New York the top spot on my list of places to go was the Karl by Karl Lagerfeld Pop-Up Shop. I was so excited to learn that the shop would remain open until August and word on the street is that Uncle Karl himself will be stopping by sometime between now and then. Not only is the shop open, but stock is replenished so if you missed out on a particular item during the online launch or didn’t make it to the pop-up shop opening you are still in luck.

The decor of the shop is black and white – no surprise there – and is pretty minimal so all the amazing product can do the talking. I really love this collection – much more than the capsule collection Lagerfeld did for Macy’s last year. There are great apparel pieces and some really stellar accessories – those collars and gloves!

Not only did the shop have the Karl collection but it had many of Karl Lagerfeld’s latest collaborations including books of his photographs, his glasses collection with Orrefors and his makeup collection for Sephora. I was especially excited to see the Sephora collection as it was not released in the U.S. so now ladies stateside can get their fingers on Karl silhouette-shaped eyeshadow.

The vibe of the shop was relaxed though I’m sure it was anything but on opening day! The staff was very friendly and super-helpful which I love. So much of a shopping experience can be made or ruined by retail staff and I’m happy to say that Justin, Jonathan and Alex made my Karl experience a memorable one.

It was impossible for me to leave empty handed. I tend to be an accessories girl because I’m petite and pretty much wear a uniform that fits my shape so I didn’t go too crazy on apparel. It was hard to narrow down all the stuff I wanted but I ended up getting: a tank for myself, leather fingerless gloves (cut sooo low on the hand and embossed with Karl’s profile!), a tank for a friend, two pins for myself, a tote bag and a limited edition doll for my daughter (for when she’s older – it would not survive the terrible 2s!). I mentioned to Justin the store manager that I wrote a blog about Chanel and he happily let me take photos of the shop and even gifted me a tote and t-shirt that was given out to lucky shoppers at the shop opening. My lucky day!

Take a look at my photos of the shop and the goodies I took home with me below. If you are in the New York area you definitely should check out the Karl by Karl Lagerfeld shop.

Photos of Karl Lagerfeld’s NYC Apartment

karl lagerfeld nyc gramercy apartment

Last September I mentioned that Karl Lagerfeld’s New York City apartment in the Gramercy Park neighborhood was for sale.  The apartment was not sold and it’s back on the market – with $1.3 million shaved off the price tag.  I posted some small images last time but here are some larger images, along with some new ones.  What I would do for an apartment in NYC (or anywhere) like that!

Boy Chanel: Chanel Boy Bag Spring-Summer 2012

Chanel Boy Bag Alice Dellal
I’ve been covering the behind-the-scenes making of the Chanel Boy Bag spring-summer 2012 campaign, and even saw a short film by Karl Lagerfeld (“My New Friend Boy”) and now we finally get to see the campaign images and collection. The Chanel Boy Bag spring-summer 2012 collection features Alice Dellal and was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld.

I LOVE this campaign. I have to say that I wasn’t that excited about Alice Dellal being chosen as the face of the Boy Bag campaign but I think these images are stunning. Karl Lagerfeld has managed to balance Alice Dellal’s edgy look with a sexy femininity. I love the styling – the bows, pearls, fishnets, the bangles (I NEED) and of course the bags!  Chanel is really expanding the Boy Bag offering with different colors and textures. I love the addition of quilting and caviar leather to the center panel of the Boy Bag and it looks like more strap options and sizes are available now.  Chanel has developed a micro-site devoted to the Chanel Boy Bag and you can view the whole collection below.

Chanel: The Little Black Jacket Photo Shoot with Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld

“The CHANEL jacket symbolises a timelessly fashionable form of nonchalant feminine elegance: it belongs to every era” – Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel sent a video of a behind-the scenes look at the making of the The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic jacket revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld. Watching this video is like watching the dream team of fashion at work with Peter Philips doing makeup, Carine Roitfeld styling and Karl Lagerfeld photographing. I’ve always wanted a Chanel Little Black Jacket and now I want one even more!

The images for this latest project were shot in Cannes, in the South of France, and then in New York, before finishing up in Paris in Karl Lagerfeld’s studio. Over a hundred models and celebrities have been captured by the designer’s lens. Actors, artists, singers, rock stars – the book’s impressive line-up encompasses all aspects of contemporary culture today including Georgia May Jagger, Carine Roitfeld, Sarah Jessica Parker, Virginie Ledoyen, Akuol de Mabior, Virginie Viard – and they all wear CHANEL’s uniquely timeless and versatile little black jacket in their own special way.

The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, will be available in bookstores beginning Autumn 2012.

Karl Lagerfeld Interview – Chanel Fall-Winter 2012/13 Ready-to-Wear

“Chanel is about life, dressing women for life.” -Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld echoes the sentiments of Coco Chanel and carries on the tradition of “dressing women for life”. In this video Karl Lagerfeld talks about his inspiration for the Chanel Fall-Winter 2012/13 Ready-to-Wear show, explains the silhouettes and use of materials, and even drops a hint about the Chanel Fall-Winter 2012/13 Haute Couture inspiration – it may be a bit childlike. Whatever it is, I can’t wait to see!

Karl Lagerfeld Shoots Café Society Spread for Harper’s Bazaar

Photo: Harper’s Bazaar shot by Karl Lagerfeld, all 3 dresses Chanel

I love the 1920s – it’s one of my favorite decades and I wish I could have lived during that time. In a recent shoot for Harper’s Bazaar, Karl Lagerfeld shot a fashion spread for Harper’s Bazaar entitled Café Society inspired by the Jazz Age. It’s a lovely shoot and one of the shots features three Chanel dresses from the Spring 2012 collection. Check out the video below to hear Karl’s thoughts on the shoot…
