Chanel Coco Mademoiselle 2011 Ad Campaign – All Videos and Photos

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Ad CampaignI put up several posts on the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle ad campaign – feeding you little bits of info as I received it. Well, today, I received everything – the entire media package and I’m laying it all out here for you to enjoy.

On March 21, 2011, CHANEL will debut the highly anticipated short film titled, “Coco
Mademoiselle,” starring Oscar®-nominated actress Keira Knightley.

Three years after the first commercial film, Knightley reprises her role as COCO MADEMOISELLE, a modern
day Coco Chanel whose mystery, daring and rebelliousness are at the heart of her charm.

While the first film featured long evening gowns, the second takes on a more urban feel, with Knightley
appearing on the streets of Paris in a chic, beige motorcycle jumpsuit designed for her by Karl Lagerfeld.
Filmed in legendary locations across the City of Light – from Place Vendome to Place de la Concorde, the film
is a collaboration between Knightley and Joe Wright, a creative relationship that began with Wright’s
directorial debut, the Oscar®-nominated film Pride & Prejudice, and continued with the Oscar®-nominated
Atonement.

“For me, Gabrielle Chanel is an icon and there was an incredible power emanating from all the photos of her,”
states Knightley. “When I began to delve into her history more closely, I was obviously fascinated by her
immense talent as a designer, but more than that, by her singular background.”

The commercial film’s soundtrack, “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” by James Brown is performed by the
soulful voice of Grammy® award winner, Joss Stone and was published by Warner Chappell.
Coco Mademoiselle is a fresh oriental scent created by CHANEL master perfumer Jacques Polge in 2001.
The fragrance represents the ever-evolving spirit of Coco Chanel in this feminine, sexy, young and exciting
fragrance.

A national cable television flight of 30 and 60 second spots will debut March 22, 2011. A print advertisement
shot by Mario Testino will debut in April 2011.

In April 2006, Knightley joined the legendary league of women who have represented CHANEL in global
advertising campaigns. Her elegance, beauty and modernity are some of her qualities that parallel the iconic
faces featured in the CHANEL fragrance campaigns, including Nicole Kidman, Ali McGraw, Catherine
Deneuve and Audrey Tautou for N°5, Vanessa Paradis for Coco and Anna Mouglalis for Allure Sensuelle.

keira knightley coco mademoiselle

A few months ago we showed some sneak peeks of the new Coco Mademoiselle campaign featuring Keira Knightley again.  We’ve got a few more looks – we’ll have to wait until March 23rd to see the full campaign roll out.  From what I can see, Knightley looks beautiful in the ad.  I can’t wait to see the film that accompanies the photos!

Natalie Portman for Miss Dior Cherie

I’ve been saying it for about three years now that I thought Natalie Portman SHOULD be the face of a Chanel fragrance.  She’s gorgeous, intelligent, talented and elegant – all things that embody Chanel.  I always thought she should have been selected over Keira Knightley – don’t get me wrong, Keira is gorgeous – I just don’t think she represents Chanel the way someone like Natalie Portman could.

Well, Chanel slept on Natalie Portman and Dior scooped her up as the new face of Miss Dior Cherie.  Directed by Sofia Coppola, the ad portrays Portman as an ingénue set to the tune of Je t’aime… moi non plus performed by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg.

This isn’t Sofia Coppola’s first ad for Dior, she did the first Miss Dior Cherie ad a few years back. I think she’s a great choice for directing the ads because she always nails that feminine je ne sais quoi paired with a great soundtrack and great style.

Keira Knightley’s new ad for Coco Mademoiselle should be coming out soon – we saw images of the crew shooting it a few months back. I wonder how it will compare to the new Miss Dior Cherie ad since they are both targeting a younger audience…

Keira Knightley in Chanel Couture at London Premier of Never Let Me Go

For the premiere of Never Let Me Go in London, Keira wore a CHANEL Haute Couture gown made exclusively from pearls. Pearls are classic, timeless and chic, I wanted all of these qualities to work with the make up to create and iconic image that would still look current years from now.

-CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kate Lee

Last week, Keira Knightley attended the London premier of her new film Never Let Me Go in a stunning Chanel couture gown made of pearls. As the launch of the new Coco Mademoiselle ad campaign featuring Ms. Knightley nears, we can be sure to see her sporting Chanel at many upcoming events. Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee coordinated the couture dress with an equally stunning look. She shared…

Keira is one of my favorite canvasses, she has a magnificent bone structure, and beautiful features, so its always hard to choose which one to play up! I went with eyes, as I thought a strong elegant eye would look great with her new cut. To make it slightly more modern, I used only cream shadows, a mixture of CHANEL Intense Eye Liner in Noir inside the eye and along the bottom and top lash line. I also crept it up onto the outer third of the socket to add depth, after lots of gentle blending I added in Nars creme shadow from the Thebes Duo to the centre of the lid, and also to the brow bone to add a glow and create dimension. Finally, I curled the lashes, gave the lashes a generous coat of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir, and then added a few clumps of Ardel lashes in a random pattern. The final effect was dramatic but modern. Her lips were CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Perle, and I sculpted her cheeks with CHANEL Powder Blush in Imprévu.

Keira Knightley in Chanel Beauté

Keira Knightley, star of the upcoming COCO MADEMOISELLE advertising campaign sequel directed by Joe Wright, wore CHANEL makeup at the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear Show in Paris on Tuesday, October 5th, 2010.

Keira looked gorgeous and I love her new bob. I wonder if it was inspired by Coco? Keira’s look was created using the following products – it won’t make us look like her but it will get us as close as we can:

Face: VITALUMIÈRE AQUA Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige Rosé – Tendre (available March 2011)
JOUES CONTRASTE Powder Blush in Pink Explosion

Eyes: LES 4 OMBRES Quadra Eye Shadow in Tentation Cuivré
MASCARA INIMITABLE WATERPROOF in Noir

Lips: ROUGE COCO Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Chintz

Chanel Announces New Coco Mademoiselle Advertising Campaign

Chanel seems to be on a fragrance ad campaign roll. It seems like every time I post about a new ad campaign, another one is right behind it. Soon after the Scorsese film ad for Bleu de Chanel, Chanel has announced that it’s filming a new Coco Mademoiselle ad campaign featuring the fragrances face, Keira Knightley. Directed by Joe Wright, Chanel continues the tradition of pairing it’s actresses who star in their campaigns with directors the actresses have worked with.*  Knightley and Wright worked together on the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice.

Take a look at the behind the scenes images below.

The old Coco Mademoiselle ad featuring Keira Knightley.

*Previous actress/director pairings:
Chanel No. 5:
Nicole Kidman & Baz Luhrmann in Moulin Rouge
Audrey Tautou & Jean-Pierre Jeunet in Amélie.

My Two Cents: Natalie Portman For Chanel

natalie portman chanel
A while back I posted about how I thought Keira Knightley was not the right person for the Coco Mademoiselle ads. “Though stunningly beautiful, I didn’t think Ms. Knightly embodied the class, elegance and style of Mlle. Chanel.” I meant to add that I thought Natalie Portman would have been a better choice. I just saw this photo of Ms. Portman wearing Chanel recently and it made me think of that again. Chanel announced a while back that Audrey Tautou would be the new face of Chanel No. 5 so I guess that’s out of the question for now. We’ll have to see, but my vote for the next face of a Chanel fragrance is N.P.

Audrey Tautou: The New Face of Chanel No. 5

audrey tautou
A few months back we reported that Audrey Tautou would be playing the one and only Mlle. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the film adaption of the designer’s life. Today, we just learned that Audrey Tautou is said to also be the face of the upcoming campaign and commercials for the legendary Chanel No.5 fragrance.
chanel no 5
The actress will work with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who directed Audrey in cult classic Amélie. She will follow in the footsteps of actress Nicole Kidman who filmed a commercial and ad campaign for Chanel No. 5 and who worked with director Baz Luhrmann who worked with Ms. Kidman in Moulin Rouge. I LOVED what they did together and I’m really excited to see what the next commercial will be like. You can view the Nicole Kidman Chanel No. 5 commercial here – I never tire of watching it!

I’m really happy with the decision to have Audrey Tautou represent Coco in the film and be the face of the designer’s signature fragrance. Especially, since I was really unhappy with Keira Knightley being cast at the face of the Coco Madamoiselle. fragrance. Though stunningly beautiful, I didn’t think Ms. Knightly embodied the class, elegance and style of Mlle. Chanel. I think the company has made up for this by choosing to work with Mlle. Tautou. What do you think?
