Coco Chanel is a fashion icon but what launched her into fashion cult status is the worldwide popularity of her signature scent, Chanel No.5. The house of Chanel has released countless fragrances – one more compelling than the next. I personally love Coco Mademoiselle, Allure, Chanel No.5 Sensual Elixir and my current favorite Beige.

Nylon TV‘s Factory Girl paid a visit to the famed Chanel Perfume Lab where “all the magic happens” to sit down and chat with famed “nose” (i.e., perfumer) Jacques Polge. So jealous! I want her job! Watch the video below …

LES POP-UP DE CHANEL SUMMER 2010 MAKEUP COLLECTION

Coco Chanel made tans chic, and now Peter Philips had concocted a summer cosmetics collection that will make bronzed skin glow. Inspired by Mademoiselle’s idyllic seaside vista, Les Pop-Up De Chanel, boasts a fresh crops of colors that will surely be the cult favorites of the summer. Neon pink, sunny coral and brilliant turquoise are sure to complement any glowing tan (faux or not).

The limited edition collection features Soleil Tan de Chanel (Moisturizing Bronzing Powder), Rouge Allure (Luminous Satin Lip Color $32), Aqualumière (Sheer Color Lipshine SPF 15 $29), Aqualumière Gloss (High Shine Sheer Concentrate $27), Gloss Fluo de Chanel (Brilliant Lip Shine $27), Lèvres Scintillantes (Glossimer $27) and Le Vernis (Nail Colour $23).

I’m especially loving Le Vernis Nail Colour in Nouvelle Vague – it’s a bit reminiscent of the ever-popular Jade but it’s a bit more blue evoking the Mediterranean Sea. All of these colors looks great together and will take you from the beach to le club. Les Pop-Up De Chanel Summer 2010 Makeup Collection hits stores in May 2010. I know I can’t wait to get my Nouvelle Vague!

It’s widely known that Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t like “round” people but that didn’t stop him from contributing to V Magazine’s Size Issue. Models.com just released a sneaky peek of Karl’s “Coco A Go-Go” shoot featuring Miss Dirty Martini and Jane Schmitt as “Coco.” I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure that Mademoiselle is rolling in her grave. The History of the Chanel 2.55 Handbag and How to Spot a Fake

I recently came across an informative article that goes over the history of the iconic Chanel 2.55 Handbag and all of the details, and the inspiration behind them on Fashion Pearls of Wisdom.

The writer takes us through her most recent find of an original Chanel 2.55 bag from the 1950s-1960s that was designed by Mademoiselle Chanel herself. So gorgeous! She then details the differences between the original bag (“reissue”) and the handbag that Karl Lagerfeld tweaked in the 1980s (“classic”). Both bags are still available today and have very subtle differences.

Finally, the writer gives us tips on how to spot a fake – very helpful clues. I still don’t have a 2.55 bag and it’s on the top of my wish list but now I would love to get my hands on an original designed by Coco herself.

Mademoiselle Chanel’s birthday is today, August 19th, and all the ladies (and gentleman) at M.I.S.S. wish Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel Joyeux Anniversaire. She may not be here to celebrate herself, but we can commemorate her style and spirit. Tonight I’ll be raising a glass of champagne to Coco and thanking her for all the beauty she bestowed upon us.
